This category encompasses training courses for EMS clinicians which focus on Maine EMS training programs for skills which support public health outside of the normal or traditional scope of EMS clinical practice.

NOTE: This course is intended specifically for Emergency Medical Dispatcher Training; however, the course is open to EMS clinicians as well.

This course introduces call-takers to the Maine Call Receipt Transfer and Assessment Policy, which is designed to support emergency dispatch professionals handling mental and behavioral health calls for service. The course will review the policy components and demonstrate how to use the Behavioral Health Caller - Policy Decision Tree to determine the best pathway for connecting callers to the most appropriate resource.

Successful completion of this course by all Emergency Medical Dispatchers at your Center is one of four components required to facilitate the effective transfer of callers reporting non-emergency mental or behavioral health situations to a resource other than a response by public safety professionals, such as 9-8-8, also known as the Maine Crisis Line.

This self-paced, online MEMSEd course is intended to increase cultural humility among EMS clinicians interacting with patients who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community. As healthcare professionals, we must do our best to ensure that ALL patients interacting with our system feel as comfortable and safe as possible. This course works to raise awareness about language, terminology, and stigma associated with the LGBTQIA+ community and insight into relevant pearls of medical information that will assist EMS clinicians with care for some patients identifying with this community.
Successful completion of this course will result in the award of the following CEHs:
1.5 hrs- Prep/Ops
0.5 hrs- Medical

This course is designed to educate Maine EMS clinicians on the use of the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Antigen Card Test by Abbott Labs. The information contained in this training is current as of November 9, 2020. Please reach out to Maine EMS if you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns by emailing maine.ems@maine.gov
